Frequently Asked Questions

Life is your mountain. Your goal is to find your path not  to reach the top

  • What are your business hours?

My hours are Monday to Friday 10am - 8pm

    Evenings and Saturdays by arrangement.

    I work by appointment only.

  • Is there a fee and what type of payment methods do you accept?

Yes, there is a fee for counselling.

My fees are on a sliding scale of £50- £80 per hour for adult counselling

Clients 16 and under have a concessionary rate.

I accept PayPal payment, Bank transfer, cash or card payment.  When booking online a card payment is required.

    Most major credit/debit cards accepted.

There is a fee of £15 per item for any admin requests.

  • What can I expect from our first session together?

Our first session together is an opportunity to meet and get to know each other.

There are some standard questions that I go through with each client. I will explain how I work as a therapist as well as explaining about more about the confidentially agreement.

I will also answer any questions or concerns you may have.

It may be necessary to do a short assessment to understand more about you and any issues you are currently experiencing.

We will also discuss what you would like to achieve through counselling and any goals you would like to work towards.  If you have any apprehensions or expectations.

By being able to focus on your feelings and develop self-awareness we can work towards making  those small positive changes happen.

If you are still unsure if counselling is the right pathway for you,  I can offer a short 30 minute telephone consultation, if you feel this may be of benefit to you.

There is no charge for this.

Our initial meeting will last approximately 60 minutes. During this time we will discuss what you see as your main issues, is there a combination of issues you are currently facing? perhaps something is blocking you from moving forward and progressing further,  or you may not know what is troubling you.at all.

     That's ok.

There is no pressure to reveal or discuss anything you do not feel comfortable doing.  You decide what details you wish to share.

Feeling comfortable with your therapist is key to a successful ongoing therapeutic relationship.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

  • How can counselling help me?

Your counsellor provides a safe environment in which to explore your issues,

if you are struggling to cope and are finding day-to-day life difficult, you may benefit from professional help. Just talking to someone confidentially who is not a friend or family member can make all the difference.

Counselling provides  time for you to explore your feelings and talk about any problems you're experiencing. A counsellor can help you develop better ways of coping, allowing you to move forward and get the most out of life.

As with most types of therapy you are free to discuss what you wish, from everyday events, dilemmas, feelings, and thoughts, to regrets, aspirations, memories and dreams.

Therapy is a shared journey, a shared process.

When we experience stress, distress, or mental ill health such as depression or anxiety, I believe that, in many cases, it is because we have lost touch with ourselves in some way due to our experiences, and the way we think and feel about what has happened to us.

This is your journery, your pathway.  I do not have all the answers, but together we can explore and question anything that is coming up for you.

This will shape the direction of our work together.

  • What type of issues can I bring to Counselling?

There are no set issues to bring to the therapy session.  Whatever you feel is troubling you is obviously an important area for you to explore further.

Talking to a therapist provides a safe place to do this.

There is no problem too big or too small to bring to counselling.  If you need additional help, I am happy to arrange that for you.

I have  a lot of experience in many areas of counselling. Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Bereavment, Abuse, Addiction, Self-Esteem, PTSD, Stress, Shame, Anxiety, Self-harm, OCD,  Anger, to name a few.

Any questions please get in touch.

  • What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a broad term used to describe talking therapies, which includes counselling.

Both counsellors and psychotherapists provide a service for those looking for support and treatment for a wide range of mental health and emotional concerns.

Counselling tends to tackle problems at the time of the crisis, whereas psychotherapy focuses on longer-term psychological problems.

Holistic counselling looks at all elements of the person, not just focusing on their mental health.

  • Can I request online or telephone counselling?

    Yes, of course.

Telephone, or online couselling is very effective and convenient.  It can be accessed from the comfort of your home or office enviroment.

I would however ask that you are in a quiet confidential space, were you are not overheard and there are no distractions.

I only use secure platforms for my sessions.

Telephone or Online Counseling is available UK wide.

  • Do you counsel people of all ages?

Any age can benefit from the counselling process.

Anyone under 16 will require parental consent.

    I offer counselling to

    Adults,

    Children  over 10 years.

    Young people. and teenagers.

    Couples.

    LGBTQIA+ community.

  • Do you refer clients to other services?

My  job as a therapist is to ensure you get excellent care and support.  If I feel at anytime that I  cannot meet your needs, or your needs are more complex,  It would be my responsibility to refer you or signpost you to someone more sutiable, in order to support you further in that expertise.

I can refuse to see a potential client if I feel this would be in their best interests.  I would signpost you to other agencies  that may be more sutiable.

This is in no way a rejection, but it is in the clients best interests.

This is in accordance with the code of ethical practice that counsellors adhere to.

  • Why do I have to pay a fee if I don't attend counselling?

In order to reserve a specific time slot for you each week there is a cancellation policy that applies.   This  will be explained in the contract provided.

Your therapist will discuss this cancellation policy with you more fully during our first appointment.

Any, and ALL missed sessions outside of the agreed terms will be charged at the full fee, unless 24 hours  prior notice is given.

Exceptions may be made in the case of an emergency situation.
